The Looking Glass Theatre.
About The Show…
Looking Glass playwrights offer their take on non-humans with stories range from the
ridiculously profound to the profoundly ridiculous. Think about it: Eight million New Yorkers never realize that they're sharing the city with all sorts of non-humans. These beings are tired of being ignored and they're demanding your respect. They want their rights, along with what every New Yorker wants, a chance at show business! Here, the trolls, fairies, goblins and ghouls will entertain audiences in an evening of laughs and chills. The lineup of short plays include:

About Director Shari Johnson…
Creatures of the Cabaret marks Ms. Johnson’s seventh show with The Looking Glass Theatre. Her most recent work at the Looking Glass was Not Enough Princesses, a new children’s show adapted from Swedish fairytales, which she developed with actors. Other Looking Glass productions include "M," Muncie and Mayhem, The Girls of the Five and Ten, and How to Ruin Romeo and Juliet. Shari has also directed in various theatres throughout Manhattan, including Bowery Poetry Club, the Lamb’s Theatre, and Theatre Studio Inc. Last spring, she directed the well-reviewed Spinning into Butter at The Outrageous Fortune Company. She holds a BA in English and Theatre from Hope College in Michigan.
About Looking Glass Theatre…
Looking Glass Theatre’s mission is to explore and expand the feminine aesthetic, producing works by historic female playwrights, new works by women, and productions of the classics re-imagined by contemporary women directors. This June, Looking Glass Theatre and Artistic Director Justine Lambert received The Lucille Lortel Award from The League of Professional Theatre Women. Additionally, New York Resident named Ms. Lambert one of the Top 100 New Yorkers of 2003 for her work with the company.

THE CAST
Lynsey Becher is just out of the acting program at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy. She moved to New York City a year and a half ago from the never-ending wheat fields of Kansas. In New York, Lynsey has worked with Folding Chair Classical Theatre Company, The Peculiar Works Project, The Michael Chekhov Theatre Company and now The Looking Glass Theatre. She would like to thank all of her fellow cast members for fun times and dedication and a special thanks to Shari, Danya and Rachel for being so amazing to work with. Enjoy the Show!!
Alex Coelho is a recent graduate of The American Musical And Dramatic Academy. He has also studied at HB Studios and upon graduating in September, he appeared in Several short plays with Queens Theatre in the Park and played Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing with the Pigeon Theatre Company in Bay Shore Long Island. He would like to thank his parents for their continuing support in this excessively difficult profession.
Meredith Dillard, originally from Richmond, VA, moved to New York eight months ago after graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Dramatic Art. She is excited to be making her Looking Glass Theatre debut. Thank you to my friends and family for their constant love and support.
Elise Link is excited to be making her Looking Glass Theatre debut as part of this talented and supportive group of artists! New York credits include The Right to Remain Silent and Basic Black at The York Theatre. Regionally, she’s been seen in New York is Bleeding and BFF at the Sundance Theatre Lab (Utah) as well as Fat Men in Skirts and Loose Ends at the Kennedy Center (Washington D.C.) She holds a B.A. in theatre performance from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Thanks to her family for their unending support and understanding and James for his relentless encouragement!
Elizabeth Stewart has been working on New York stage and film since studying at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting as an undergrad at NYU. New York Theater: Tempest Toss'd (Perry Street Theater, Public Theater/NYSF), Charlie's Ghost (Abingdon Theater), Back Home Set (Stella Adler Studio). Feature Film: Downtown; A Street Tale (Rafael Zelinski, dir), Stanley Cuba (Per Anderson, dir.). Short Film: writer, producer, actress, Ladies (official selection Washington DC International Film Festival). Elizabeth has written many works, including one-act play Inaction, feature screenplay Oak and forthcoming full-length play We All Fall Down, a love story set in Constantinople.
Daren Taylor is a recent graduate of NYU Tisch School of the arts. He has just returned from a year of teaching abroad in Japan and is very happy to return to the stage. Some of Daren's favorite past roles includes The Colored Museum, Our Lady of 121st Street, and his one man show What a Man!. While young, he is an accomplished actor who has worked with many companies both here in New York and Washington DC, and is grateful to Looking Glass for this opportunity.
Sharon Zaslaw is an actress/dancer/singer/model whose recent NYC credits include Who’s Got Game (The Riant Theatre), A Sure Thing (Gotham City Improv), Hair Wars (Apollo Theatre), Hairspray (Broadway Dance Showcase); “Despierta America,” Univision Channel 41, American Salon Magazine and was recently featured in an article in The New York Daily News. Sharon received her BFA at the Boston Conservatory of Music.

Rachel Klein (Assistant Director/ Stage Manager) is a director/choreographer who hails most recently from Chicago. This will be her 15th show since moving to NYC in November 2005. Rachel most recently worked at La Mama. Other notable credits include a Commedia dell'Arte production of The Frogs last summer in Central Park
Danya Nardi (Assistant Director/ Stage Manager) is currently production manager for Beyond The Wall Productions and is happy to be working with the Looking Glass Theatre for the first time. Previous directing credits include Macbeth, Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, and Fugue for Fred and the Four Seasons. She would like to thank Shari, Rachel, the cast, and the rest of the usual suspects.
Romanka Zajac (Set Designer) is excited to be making her solo set design debut at The Looking Glass Theatre! She received a BA in Production Design from Fordham University at Lincoln Center. Over the past year and a half, Romanka has been busy working at theatres such as the Manhattan Theatre Club, Ensemble Studio Theatre, 59 E 59, and Ukrainian Stage Ensemble. Romanka would like to thank the Baal production team and cast, Looking Glass interns, and priceless family and friends for their help and support on this project. This set is dedicated to her parents.
Ryan Metzler (Lighting Designer) is the Lighting Designer in Residence at the Looking Glass Theatre, where he designs the semi-annual Writer/Director Forums. Productions in New York include: Copito, Sex and Sealing Wax, and The Quiet Model (Midtown Festival); Chess (NY Fringe); Spring’s Awakening, Helix 999 and Baal (Looking Glass Theatre); The End of Civilization (Locus Theatre Company); Eight Ways to Meet your Neighbor and Soccer Moms from Hell (The Theatre Studio, Inc.); Stone Cold Dead Serious (Small Pond Entertainment).
Tara Hawks (Costume Designer) is a freelance costumer who mostly builds costumes for Broadway and film designers, but takes time to design from time to time. Her most recent design credits include the film, The Cult of Sincerity” and the Fringe Festival show, Red Herring. She has worked as a cutter/draper at the Metropolitan Opera, Barbara Matera Ltd, Glimmerglass Opera, American Players Theater, and Santa Fe Opera. Tara also does wardrobe work for film, most recently American Gangster and The Accidental Husband” She graduated from NC School of the Arts, and looks forward to having her own studio soon.
