Looking Glass Theatre proudly presents Everyman, the timeless morality play, directed by Shari Johnson. EVERYMAN opens at The Looking Glass Theatre on Thursday, May 8. There will not be a performance on Thursday, May 15. Running time is approximately 70 minutes.
About the Show…
Knock, Knock! Death is at Every’s door and she is not prepared. A Reckoning is the last thing she reckoned on. She’s been living the good life, but now confronted by Death, Every’s got to find someone or something to take with her to the grave. On her way, she will come face-to-face characters such as Beauty, Knowledge, Good Deeds and Strength. This new production of the most powerful morality play of the Medieval period will challenge how you think about life, death and all the deeds in between. Everyman mixes brokenness with beauty, tragedy with comedy, for a literally spiritual theatrical experience.

About the Director Shari Johnson…
Ms. Johnson has directed seven shows at Looking Glass, including Not Enough Princesses, "M," Muncie and Mayhem, How to Ruin Romeo and Juliet and most recently Creatures of the Cabaret. Shari has directed in various theatres throughout Manhattan, including Bowery Poetry Club, the Lamb’s Theatre, Theater 1050, Theatre Studio Inc., and The Outrageous Fortune Company. Last summer she directed the premiere of Addicted to Christmas at the Midtown International Theatre Festival. She holds a BA in English and Theatre from Hope College in Michigan.

CELESTE ARIAS (Good Deeds) has most recently been seen as Brooke in 200 Mystical Fictions (NYC Fringe), Liz in There Was and There Wasn’t (The Landscaping Company) and as a clowning teacher with Gymstars in Brooklyn. She graduated from NYU in May having trained at the Experimental Theatre Wing and the Meisner Extension. Many thanks to her family.
PHILLIP CHAVIRA (Cousin & 5 Wits) - Looking Glass debut! NY: Die Laughing (Laugh Factory), Food (Shea Theatre), reCycle Plays (Confluence Theatre) and No Sir (Living Theatre). Tour: National Theatre for Children. Founding member of sketch comedy troupe Company (Pittsburgh, PA). Much love to family and friends, MDNA.
JONAH DILL-D’ASCOLI (Confession) holds a B.A. in Theatre and Philosophy from Drew University and an M.A. in Classical Acting from the Central School of Speech and Drama. He has also trained with Song of the Goat Theatre and the Grotowski Centre in Poland. Jonah is also currently playing Tybalt in the PaxAmicus Theatre’s version of Romeo and Juliet. Other recent theatre credits include Sisyphus’s Day Off (Done to Death), Little Vines (Busse Productions), What if? (Tale on Fire); puppetry with In the Heart of the Beast Theatre and Sibling Revelry Theatre; and tours with The National Theatre for Children.
MEGAN GAFFNEY (Knowledge) was last seen in Patchwork Initiative’s production of Vinegar Tom. She spent last summer at the Winni Playhouse where she was a finalist for the New Hampshire Theater Best Actress Award for her performance as Lainie in Two Rooms. Other credits: The Beach (Yale Rep); Comedy of Errors (Yale Rep); Travesties (Long Wharf); As You Like It (u/s, Hangar Mainstage); Swan Lake Calhoun (Vital Theater); Please Let Me Love You (Dixon Place); Elektra (Penn, Edinburgh Fringe); The Tempest (BADA). Megan is a graduate of UPenn and currently studies with Bill Esper. She is a proud spring intern at Looking Glass!
ANNE GILL (Fellowship) - After receiving her Master’s Degree and living in London for two years, Anne is happy to be back working in NYC. She has worked in the US, UK and Ireland. Theatre includes: Antigone, Tartuffe, Timon of Athens, Ripped, Pride in an Elevator, American Haiku, and two shows with Guerilla Cabaret, an international theatre group founded in London dedicated to new women’s writing and directing. Film and television includes: The Vicious Kind, The Genus Blend, Benchwarmers, “Strong Medicine” and “Wanted.” She has a BA in theatre from Wheaton College, and an MA in performance from RADA and Kings College, London.
MADELEINE PRAMIK (Death) was born in San Francisco, California. She has studied acting at NYU, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, where she recently completed the 2008 Academy Company program. Her favorite past roles include Cherie in Bus Stop, May in Fool For Love, and Marc Antony in Julius Caesar. Everyman is Madeleine’s first production with The Looking Glass Theatre and she is thrilled to be appearing in the role of Death. She would like to thank Arabella Kauffmann and her family out West for never letting her forget she’s a cowboy at heart.
CHARLOTTE PURSER* (Every) is thrilled to be back at the Looking Glass Theatre! Recent credits include: Doubt (Sister James), Buck Fever (Mary Jen), The Tempest (Miranda), Blood Sky (Joley), The Storm (Madame Kabanova), Peter Pan (Mrs. Darling, Smee), Deathwatch (Maurice), As You Like It (Touchstone), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Helena). She trained at The University of Texas at Austin, The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, and The Moscow Art Theatre School in Boston. She is a proud member of Actors Equity Association. She thanks her fiancé, family, and friends for their continued love and support!
KIMBERLEE WALKER (Strength) was last seen in Saved By The Parody: Saved By the Bell the Musical (Lisa Turtle). Other credits include Moment and Kiss Me. Some favorite past productions are: Alchemy of Desire/ Dead Man’s Blues (Selah), Les Liaisons Dangereuses (La Marquise de Merteroil) and The Vagina Monologues. She received her BFA in Acting from Ithaca College. Thanks as ever to her family and friends. She wishes to God that she owned a dog.

AMANDA THOMPSON (Assistant Director/Stage Manager) recently graduated from Muhlenberg College, where she studied directing and performance studies. Professional credits include directing in the Grassroots festival at the Allentown Theatre Outlet, assistant directing Psycho Beach Party at the Theatre Outlet, and assistant directing Carousel at SMT in Allentown. Since moving to New York City, she has been working for Ripe Time theatre and working as a Teaching Artist. She also interned at New Dramatists last fall. She is very excited to be working with the Looking Glass Theatre.
SHANNON WARD (Assistant Director/Stage Manager) has most recently been seen in Minneapolis, MN with the Nautilus Opera-Music Theatre Institute, developing and directing new musical theatre. She is a resident director with the Blue Man Group, and worked on their latest tour, “How to Be a Megastar.” She has also played on the stages of The Magic Theatre, The Marin Theatre Company, The Impact Theatre, The Lark Play Development Center, The Manhattan Theatre Source and at the Brecht Forum. She graduated with a B.A. in Directing from The University of Texas and is also a Lincoln Center Directors Lab Alum.
WHEELER KINCAID (Scenic Designer) is pleased to be making his debut with Looking Glass Theatre. Other credits: Carol Channing Starring Richard Skipper, Wings Theater, NYC; 2nd Night of Scenes and Monologues, Grace Church School, NYC; BJ Lang Presents Cyrano, Richmond Shepard Theatre, NYC; Once on This Island, Summerfest Musical Theater, Birmingham AL. While not designing in New York and the South, Wheeler enjoys working as a technical director at Theatre Row Studies and Off-Off Broadway and as an electrician for such companies as The Juilliard School, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and the Marjorie S. Dean Little Theater.
RACHELLE BECKERMAN (Light Designer) received her MFA in Lighting and Scenic design at Ohio University. She completed her BA at SUNY Buffalo, where she studied Theatre Production & Technology and Photography. While at OU, Rachelle spent a term studying at Central St. Martins College of Art and Design in London. Recently she has been involved in USITT’s Prague Quadrennial 2007 student exhibition, traveling to Prague and Houston to install the exhibit. Last summer she interned with Warner en Consorten, a street theatre company in Amsterdam, NL, performing in The Netherlands and France. Her latest project was assisting Ursula Belden on the scenic design of On Naked Soil at Theatre for the New City.
MARK RICHARD CASWELL (Costume Designer) Mark Richard Caswell designs for Theater, Film, and Television. This is his first show with The Looking Glass Theatre. In the past year he designed three feature films with director Elizabeth Lucas: Red Hook, Clear Blue Tuesday, and Fade to White. He also worked with the Korean television company SBS for ten episodes of the drama, “The Lobbyist,” which aired in Korea, China, and Japan last fall. Clear Blue Tuesday will enjoy a screening as a part of the New York Musical Theater Festival in August. You can see more of his work at www.markrichardcaswell.com.
JUAN ABOITES (Sound Designer) is a musician, composer and sound designer based in Brooklyn. He will be releasing a solo instrumental album on the Art Fact Recordings label in the early fall. This is his first collaboration with The Looking Glass Theatre.
