V-DAY NEW YORK CITY 2012 JOINS GLOBAL EFFORT
TO STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS

V-Day New York City 2012 and Looking Glass Theatre are proud to again join the global effort to raise funds and awareness for local organizations that work to stop violence against women and girls. Looking Glass Theatre will present a benefit production of A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer: Writings To Stop Violence Against Women and Girls, a groundbreaking collection of monologues by world-renowned authors and playwrights, edited by Eve Ensler and Mollie Doyle, directed by Rose Ginsberg.
Performances will be Friday, February 17 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, February 18 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Looking Glass Theatre, 422 West 57th Street in New York, NY, (9th/10th Ave). This production has closed.
These writings are inspired, funny, angry, heartfelt, tragic, and beautiful. Together they create a true and profound portrait of how violence against women affects every one of us. Ms. Ginsberg’s take on this collection is to choose empowerment. A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant, And A Prayer is a call to the world to demand an end to violence against women, the mission of V-Day.
Last year, more than 5,800 V-Day benefits took place around the world. Since 1998, V-Day and these incredibly successful events have raised over $85 million for local beneficiaries working to end violence against women and girls. Proceeds from V-Day NYC 2012 ticket sales will benefit two local organizations: Women In Need, Inc, (WIN) and Voices of Women Organizing Project (VOW).

shelter, supportive permanent housing, job training, domestic violence services, alcohol and
substance abuse treatment and childcare, WIN offers tools and guidance which allow families
to return to their communities and live independently.
Resource Center, a nonprofit that works to empower survivors of domestic violence.
VOW supports survivors of domestic violence as they lead efforts to end violence, shape
policies and improve services for battered women.
In addition, ten percent of proceeds goes to the V-Day international campaign, The Women and Girls of Haiti.
V-Day NYC 2012 features Lauren Benson, Toccara Castleman, Akua Doku, David Harrell, Missy Hernandez, Amanda Hopper, Ashley Lovell, Sierra Marcks, Amanda Marikar, Sarah Matteucci and Jenn Tufaro.

LAUREN KELLY BENSON - This is Lauren’s third production with Looking Glass Theatre and second time returning to the stage for such a great cause! A graduate from Hunter College with a degree in Theatre and Sociology, this production couldn't be closer to her heart. She wants to thank Rose for giving her the chance to work on it, Looking Glass for putting it on, and all her friends and family for their constant support and love.
AKUA DOKU is an actress and poet who trained at Looking Glass Theatre and The Magnet Theater along with acting coach, Jagger Kaye. Akua has worked on several short films and debuting her first theatrical play, Arrested .

MISSY HERNANDEZ refuses to stop playing make-believe. Hers was an easy career choice… This writer, actress, and producer graduated from Columbia University where she studied screenwriting and film studies. Missy then studied acting with William Esper at William Esper Studios and Shakespeare with Revolucion Latina’s Ian Hersey of the Public Theatre. In autumn 2010, Missy co-founded Buds of May Productions. She produced and acted in the debut of Ethan’s People at Manhattan Theatre Source in January 2011 as well as it’s subsequent festival run at the 2011 Midtown International Theatre Festival. AMANDA HOPPER graduated from the University of Iowa, where she majored in acting, international business and getting a lot of parking tickets. Since moving to New York, she has appeared as Hannah Cherlitch in Milk Can Theatre's production of Heffetz, a pill-popping psychopath in Joe Capozzi's I Like Crazy and in various improv and sketch shows at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, where she performs as one-third of The Harlots. This is Amanda's second show with Rose and Looking Glass Theatre (Ready, Set, Story!) -- she owes both of them her thanks and one of them a margarita. Lots of love to Dad, Mom, John and Liam.
ASHLEY LOVELL is a native New Yorker, has been acting here since graduation, and has appeared in several stage, film, and TV productions. Recent credits include Coyote, and Start Again (Gene Frankel Theatre, Red House on the Left.); Fragments of the World, part of the Rome International Film Festival; and a bit with John Oliver on “The Daily Show.” Ashley is thrilled to be part of this production of MMRP. AMANDA MARIKAR graduated summa cum laude from Barnard College with a B.A. in English, and also studied for a year at St. Peter’s College, Oxford. Selected credits include: At War: American Playwrights Respond to Iraq (45 Bleecker), Home/Front (TE’A Project, co-writer), Quake (UK Premiere, Finborough Theatre, London), and readings for MCC Theater, Rattlestick, Looking Glass, ESPA, etc. Training: The Maggie Flanigan Studio, Moscow Art Theatre, Chautauqua, and BADA. Company member: The TE’A Project. Amanda is thrilled to be working with the wonderful Rose Ginsberg again, and with this incredible cast of talented women (and man)!

JENN TUFARO, originally from North Dakota, is delighted to be a part of her fifth(!) V-DAY with Rose Ginsberg (fourth at Looking Glass Theatre), raising awareness and support for the global campaign to end violence against women and girls. She is the Co-Artistic Director / Managing Director of Looking Glass Theatre. An award-winning performer, Jenn was last seen on the Looking Glass stage in Ryan Glass’ Just A Reading. Love to Greg.

ROSE GINSBERG (Director) is thrilled to direct her fifth production for V-Day (The Vagina Monologues, 2007 and 2011; A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer, 2009 and 2010). A graduate of Barnard College and lifelong feminist, Rose has been directing plays and musical theater, with a focus on telling women's stories, since 2005. She is an Artistic Associate and scene study instructor at Looking Glass, where she has helmed more than 10 productions, most recently Ready, Set, Story! Her work has also been seen at Exapno, the Midtown International Theatre Festival, Manhattan Theatre Source, Variations Theatre Company, Shakespeare & Company (Lenox, MA), Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, Jimmy’s No. 43, ArtHouse (Jersey City), the Flea Theatre, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Dixon Place, and the Brooklyn Heights public library. She dedicates this show to all of the incredible feminists in her life, men and women, who amaze, inspire, and motivate her.
