ABOUT THE SHOW…
Twelve-year-old Calamity Jane and her Mother are on their way to California when they find themselves in the beleaguered town of Hoopersville. Here, all but three of the townsfolk have been townie-napped by the hilarious, hair-raising Hoopsnakes who have plagued their town. Will Calamity Jane be able to help the remaining townspeople come out of their hidey-holes and face the Hoopsnake Queen once and for all? And most importantly, will there be pie?
Join us in the Wild Wild West for some wild wild fun! You might have heard of Paul Bunyan, Johnny Appleseed, and Pecos Bill - BUT what about Jane?! And how did a little girl named Jane become CALAMITY Jane? Presented in the style of your favorite Saturday mornin’ cartoons, it’s gonna be a rootin’ tootin’, rip roarin’, good ol’ time!

Playwright E. J. C. Calvert is from St. Louis, Missouri, currently living in Chicago. Her most notable achievements include:Samuel French Off Off Broadway 2010 Winner, O'Neill Conference semifinalist, Leota Diesel Ashton Prize in Playwriting recipient, International Women's Playwriting Festival finalist, Chatterton Short Play Festival Audience Award winner. Her play The Bear (A Tragedy) is published by Samuel French. Performances and readings include The Bird Girl (Last Frontier Theatre Conference Play Lab), Testify! (Roy Arias Studios), Cadaver Synod (The Brecht Forum), Witness! The Amazing Slipping Away (The Cell). She holds an MFA in Playwriting from the New School for Drama and is a member of the Dramatists Guild.
Director Jacquelyn Honeybourne is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis with a B.A, in Theatre and Biology. A director of reimagined classics and new works in New York, many at Looking Glass where she is an Artistic Associate, some of her most recent directing credits include - Black Peter: A Musical, Naturalized Woman (staged reading), A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Casina (Adaptor/Director, Looking Glass Forum), Phaedra (Adaptor/Director, Looking Glass Forum), Paradise: A one woman show (UK), The War Zone is My Bed: A one-woman show (UK), and Li’l Heroes (Looking Glass Forum). Jacquelyn also works as a scenic and makeup designer as well as a puppet builder for theatres in the city. She is an Artistic Associate with Nora’s Playhouse, where will be directing Yasmine Rana’s Returning in Spring 2012.
Looking Glass Theatre’s mission is to theatrically and truthfully reflect a female vision on the stage while creating a community of artistic freedom. We fulfill this by presenting female directors' visions of original works or the classics and by staging new plays either written or directed by women. This includes children’s shows and educational programming as well as our semi-annual festival of new works, featuring emerging women playwrights and directors, each season. In 2009 nytheatre.com said, “Looking Glass Theatre deserves kudos for consistently programming affordable shows for families that really are produced and staged with the youngest theater-goers in mind.” The New York Times called Looking Glass Theatre’s Adventures of the Puppet Princess “charming” and “especially amusing to children under 10...a substantial introduction to the culture of Bali.” The New York Times also described our 2010 production of Betsy is Bored, Bored, Bored, Bored, Bored! as “a briskly paced romp through daydreams.”

ABRAHAM M. ADAMS (Mayor) is delighted to be part of the talented and dynamic cast of Calamity Jane Battles the Horrible Hoopsnakes. He was last seen onstage playing a variety of roles in Bertolt Brecht’s first play Baal, as well as the premiere of The Vengeance Room by Michael Hagins. Abraham is a veteran and fan of theater for children. He spent this past year with Chamber Theater Productions on two national tours, in which his favorite roles include Ichabod Crane and Albert Einstein. As always, he wishes to extend his love and admiration to his family for their unwavering support.
GIANNA CIOFFI (Snakelet) is proud to be making her NY debut! Recent graduate of SUNY New Paltz (B.A. Theatre, Communication Disorders). Favorite educational roles include Myra/Hunger in Metamorphoses and Merjane in The Wakeville Stories, a new play by Professor Larry Carr. Thanks to my parents, Aunt Mary (for letting me stay in her attic and feeding me), friends, Kevin, teachers and Looking Glass Theatre for this opportunity.
JESSICA KELLY (Mom) – NYC credits include Luise / Maja in Baal (Citishow), Bertrand in The Maid of Orleans (FringeNYC), Mariana in All’s Well That Ends Well (Foolish Mortals), Maria in Rooftops (Wreckio Ensemble) and concert performances of Chess (Svetlana), Legally Blonde (Paulette) and Cabaret (Fraulein Schneider). Regional credits include Grace Farrell in Annie (Premier Theater), Josephine Vanderwater in Lady Be Good (Surflight Theater), Fruma Sarah / u.s. Golde, Tzeitel in Fiddler on the Roof (Yorktown), A Christmas Carol, The Secret Garden, and the world premieres of The StoryKeeper and Ashley’s Purpose at Boston College. Film includes the upcoming feature Blemished Light.
DAVID MANGIAMELE (Townie Tam) is making his New York debut in Looking Glass Theatre’s Calamity Jane. He is thrilled to be working with such a motivated and talented group of individuals. MÓNICA O’MALLEY (Snake Queen) is a Washington University in St. Louis grad who’s tickled pink to be doing children’s theatre again! After working for CLIMB Theatre in MN, the native East Coaster has been seen around NYC in such roles as Better Places to Go (Judy), Much Ado About Nothing (Hero), The House of Bernarda Alba (Martirio), Savage in Limbo (Linda Rotunda), Twelfth Night (Viola), and as the title character in Miss Julie. KATIE PROULX (Calamity Jane) is an actor, improviser, and choreographer who loves Shakespeare, comedy, and dancing. Favorite roles include Diane in The Thugs, Patient Griselda/Shona/Kit in Top Girls, and Miranda in An Evening With Ladley and Craig. Prior to moving to New York, she was a cast member and Director of Choreography and Movement at ImprovBoston in Cambridge, MA. Katie works as a teaching artist with Opening Act New York, and is studying physical theater and ensemble creation with Movement Theater Studio NYC. She is thrilled to be playing Calamity Jane in this production! This is the eighth time Katie has played a twelve-year-old since she has been old enough to vote. She graduated from Brooklyn College with her MFA in Acting in 2010.
SARAH PULLMAN (Townie Toula) is thrilled to be working with Looking Glass Theatre and Jacquelyn Honeybourne on this fantastic and fun project! Sarah is a graduate of The University of Michigan with a BFA in theatre. Favorite past roles include Jenny in The Shape of Things, Germaine in Picasso at the Lapin Agile and First Fairy in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Sarah is also a licensed freelance hairstylist. She loves to sing and bake. She would like the thank Jackie for her constant support and friendship and Jonathan for being simply amazing!

EMILY ANTENUCCI (Assistant Director/Stage Manager) is so happy to be part of the fantastic team of Calamity Jane and of the Looking Glass Theatre! She has recently returned from a Fulbright Fellowship in Italy, where she wrangled teenagers as an English/theatre teacher, and learned some Shakespeare in Italian. B.A. in Drama and Italian from Vassar College, where favorite directing credits include Homebody/Kabul and Brecht’s Lux in Tenbris.
KRISTIN DWYER (Assistant Director/Stage Manager) is a recent graduate of SUNY New Paltz, and is thrilled to be working in NYC for the first time. Directed: Favored Nations & Wheels of Justice (New Play Festival) & Feed Me All Night Long (Black Box) at New Paltz & a scene from How I Learned to Drive for the KCACTF Region 1 SDC competition (finalist); AD: Spike Heels (New Paltz) & Willy Wonka Jr (Timothy Murphy Playhouse); Intern: La Boheme, 7 Deadly Sins, L’enfant et les sorteliges (Castleton Festival, VA). NICOLE CARROLL (Scenic Design & Props) is truly grateful to be a part of the creative team of Looking Glass Theatre's production of Calamity Jane. Post-Graduation from SUNY New Paltz's theatre department, Nicole has jumped right into developing her career as a theatre artist. Most recently, she completed an internship as the scenic artist with The Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor. Doubling as an actress, Nicole was also last seen portraying Margaret Lewis Livingston in the St. James Episcopal Church’s Bicentennial Lantern Graveyard Tour and has begun rehearsals for The Halfmoon Theatre’s production of Is He Dead? where she will be playing Marie. Nicole would like to give a very special thank you to Kristin for thinking of her and making it possible to be a part of this production and congratulates her, David and Gianna as well as the rest of the cast and creative team for their work on this production.
DAISY LONG (Light Design) is a New York-based lighting and scenic designer. Previously at Looking Glass Theatre, she designed for the Looking Glass Spring 2011 Writer/Director Forum. Recent: Bongani (NYC Fringe), Who's Your Baghdaddy?, F@#king Up Everything (New Musical Foundation-Washington DC), The Private Sector (Less Than Rent Theater), Wise Blood (Yale University). She holds a degree in theater from Yale University.
KRISTINA SNESHKOFF (Costume Design) is excited to return to Looking Glass Theatre! Previously at Looking Glass, she designed Three By the Sea. Other designs include The Shakespeare Theater of New Jersey: the education tour of Midsummer… and Julius Caesar; Going to St. Ives and The Memory Show, High School Musical, Seussical and High School Musical 2 at Barrington Stage Co; Life in the Middle at the Asolo Acting Repertory; Beauty and the Beast at Ballet Nouveau Colorado. She received her MFA in Costume Design at Florida State University: Hamlet, HAIR, Darkness into Light Dance Concert, and New Horizons: An Drochshaol.
