Looking Glass Theatre has been making theatre in NYC for
25 years with Justine Lambert at the helm. We have an
extensive history of producing both original work and rethinkings
of classics, and have done everything from multiple children’s productions to fully
staged musicals. We started in 1993 with a production of Arms and the Man by G.B. Shaw. Over the years we became more and more dedicated to female artists and expanded our programming.. Along with our mainstage and children's work we have produced expansive original one act festivals and off night and late night programming.
Looking Glass Theatre is dedicated to Peter Brook's idea of "Rough Theater," where, he says, "a bucket will
be banged for a battle," the theatre of "the torn sheet pinned up across the hall, the battered screen to conceal the quick changes." Rough Theatre never hides the mechanics of the stage but celebrates them with the audience.
Equally important in our work is exploring a feminine aesthetic. In concrete terms, this means that we
have a female artist at the core of every project. Aesthetically, we try to insure that women do not allow
their natural instincts to be sublimated by the desire to please the male dominated commercial market.
