theater and the arts, presents Three By the Sea,
a playful new children’s show written by Donna Latham,
a recent playwright of the Looking Glass Writer/Director
through Sunday, April 10 with performances Saturdays at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.,
Sundays at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for children 12 and
under. TDF vouchers are accepted. Running time is approximately 50 minutes
without intermission; show is appropriate for ages 3-10.

Join Buccaneer Bocephus Q. Fizziwater as he dives into a trio of tales about
wondrous watery worlds telling the stories of “Paddy and the Mermaid,” “Coyote’s
Moon” and “Foghorn Franny.” Mermaids, grizzled ole sea dogs, surfer dudes, and
ornery coyotes conquer the Seven Seas! Will Paddy be able to keep his Mermaid
bride happy on the shore? Will Little Rabbit be able to keep Coyote in the river and avoid being supper? Will Foghorn Franny survive surfer culture to find her Pop? Each sea yarn – inspired by traditional Irish folktales, Native American and Mexican folklore as well as American tall tales - is performed in whimsical, story-theatre style with music, puppets and much more!
“Paddy and the Mermaid” is loosely based on T. Crofton Croker’s “The Lady of Gollerus” published in his 1825 collection The Fairy Legends and Traditions of the South of Ireland. “Coyote’s Moon” features recurring coyote and rabbit characters of traditional Native American and Mexican trickster folklore. “Foghorn Franny” boasts a superhuman ability - a huge voice - in the American tall tale tradition.

ELISE BERNLOHR (Mina / Rabbit) is thrilled to join Looking Glass to play her favorite thing in the world, a mermaid! Elise has previously trained with Interlochen Arts Academy, the British American Drama Academy, American University, and the Moscow Art Theatre. Favorite roles include Kate, The Wild Party (Irene Ryan Award); Martirio, The House of Bernarda Alba; Hermia, A Midsummer Night’s Dream; and Babe, Crimes of the Heart. Also, this spring, Elise can be spotted on the pilot episode of USA Network’s “A Legal Mind.” Her favorite color is blue and her favorite animals are poodles and peacocks. Thanks to Marty and Jill Handelsman for their continued support and guidance, Electric Ninja, Broski, K-Pizzle, and of course, T-bernizzle.
LAURA BORGWARDT (Mistress O’Dooley / Storyteller #2) hails from Madison, Wisconsin where she grew up by the seaside. If you count The Great Lakes as the sea. She recently graduated from Syracuse University with BFA in acting. She is a founding member of The Tempest Ladies – a performance ensemble in the city, COLAB Theater Group – an educational theater organization for individuals with special needs – and is currently a teaching artist at TADA! Youth Theater. She is excited to be working with this fun and creative ensemble of actors and artists! When not on stage, Laura enjoys playing real guitar poorly and playing air guitar REALLY well.
MAGGIE DELGADILLO (Mistress Shaunessay / Sydney) is proud to be a member of the cast of Three By the Sea. She is a recent graduate of the Circle in the Square Theatre Professional Training Program and received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. Notable roles include Hope Harcourt in Anything Goes, Elsie in After the Fall and Googlette in Google: The Musical in the Minnesota Fringe Festival. Maggie is addicted to chocolate and all things sweet (especially Magnolia cupcakes!). Thanks to my family, friends, and Chris.
ROB ESRIS (Coyote / Taj) is thrilled to be returning to the theatre after a hiatus of several years. As the Coyote, he continues a completely unintentional tradition of playing various animals (previous roles include an anthropomorphic fish and a terrified goat). When he is not acting, he works as a software developer for a Manhattan hospital. He would like to dedicate his performance to Peanut, and to the memory of dear Dakota Wuxley Torpedo.
JACOB MONDRY (Judge / Storyteller #3) hails from the far away, magical village of Franklin, Michigan. Growing up, Jacob had dreams of playing professional golf, then he wanted to be an actor, then a rock and roll star, then a yoga teacher, then a cheetah. Over time he realized that he could be anything he wanted to be if he listened to the tune of his heart. Corny, but true! Jacob has thoroughly enjoyed working with the entire cast and crew of Three By the Sea and will be sad when their journey has ended. He's currently starring in a new musical, Pick-Up Artist: The Musical. He also frequents seedy comedy clubs performing improv and stand-up comedy. Most importantly, Jacob has a wonderful, supportive family that he loves dearly.
ALI SCHMIDT (Franny / Storyteller #1) is excited to be making her NYC debut in Three By the Sea. An Ohio native, Ali is a proud graduate of Bowling Green State University. Some past credits include Boeing, Boeing and I Love You, You’re Perfect… at The Red Barn Theater in Indiana, Honk! and Thoroughly Modern Millie at The Huron Playhouse in Ohio, and Company, The Importance of Being Earnest, and The Trojan Women at BGSU. Ali loves the sunshine, blowing bubbles, and she is very, very afraid of squirrels. Eek! Enjoy the show!
ZACH TAIT (Bocephus / Paddy) - Three By the Sea marks Zach’s first show at Looking Glass Theatre. Past roles include Bobby in Company, Tulsa in Gypsy, Argante in Scapin, and his first children’s production, Centipede in James and the Giant Peach. Zach is a Colorado native and is enjoying life in NYC. He’s also currently an acting intern at Looking Glass! He would like to thank Julia Martin for this opportunity, his wonderful cast and crew, his family and his beautiful wife for their love and support! Arrrr!
DONNA LATHAM (Playwright) has worked to bring literature alive for kids in a variety of roles. As a high school drama teacher and director, an elementary school librarian and a storyteller, she has explored theatre and literature with kids of all ages. “Paddy and the Mermaid” received an Honorable Mention Award in the Beverly Hills Theatre Guild’s Marilyn Hall Awards for Youth Theatre. A member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, Ms. Latham also writes books for young readers including her most recent work “Garbage: Investigate What Happens When You Throw It Away.” She received the ASPCA Henry Bergh Children’s Book Award for “Fire Dogs.” Ms. Latham holds a B.A. in Theatre and Communication Arts and an M.A. in Library Science. Her original script Do These Jeans Make My Butt Look Massive? received its first NYC production at Looking Glass Theatre as part of the semi-annual Writer/Director Forum in June 2010.
JULIA MARTIN (Director) is a director and an acting and directing teacher. She has directed several theatre pieces in the Looking Glass Forum (earning Best Direction among other Forum Awards), NEUROfest, and the Untitled Theatre’s 24/7 Festival in addition to writing and directing the short film, Aftermath. Her staged reading of Surfacing was nominated for Outstanding Overall Production of a Reading and Outstanding Performance of a Reading at Planet Connections Theatre Festivity. As an actor, she toured internationally for years as a principal member of Ellen Stewart’s Great Jones Repertory Company, starred opposite Mike Meyers in the short film, Opposites Attractand premiered the role of Jane in the Eve Ensler’s production, Lemonade. Her current projects include her two young children. She is a graduate of the Columbia MFA theatre program where she studied under the tutelage of Andrei Serban, Anne Bogart and Robert Woodruff.
JULIA FRIERI (Assistant Director / Stage Manager) is delighted to be a part of the Three By the Sea team! A recent graduate of Bucknell University with a BA in Theatre and a minor in dance. Directing credits at Bucknell include bobrauschenbergamerica by Charles Mee and Mud by Maria Irene Fornes. Assistant Directing credits include Once Upon a Time in New Jersey (Prospect Theater Company) and Savage in Limbo (Rosalind Productions/Platform Group). She is a member of the East/West Project and will be performing with the ensemble at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival next summer. In her spare time, Julia likes to play with her dog Bailey and bake cupcakes.

RYAN METZLER (Light Design) is the former Light Designer in Residence for Planet Connections Theatre Festivity and Looking Glass Theatre. Select New York credits include: Stone Cold Dead Serious (Clurman Theater at Theatre Row); North of Providence (Altered Stages); Eden (chashama); One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (The Richmond Shepard Theatre); La Boheme (Inwood Shakespeare Festival). He has been active in charity work, designing for the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS benefit One Night Only (Loews Theater, Jersey City, NJ), the musical Hear Our Song (Riverspace Arts Center, Nyack, NY) for the Children's Brain Tumor Foundation, and Songs for a New World (Beckett Theatre at Theater Row) for the PM3 Foundation.
KRISTINA SNESHKOFF (Costume Design) is thrilled to make her Looking Glass Theatre debut. Most recently, she has designed at The Shakespeare Theater of New Jersey: the education tour of Midsummer… and Julius Caesar. Other designs include Jekyll & Hyde at The Media Theater; The Memory Show on Stage II and High School Musical, Seussical and High School Musical 2 on the Youth Theatre Stage at Barrington Stage Co; Life in the Middle at the Asolo Acting Repertory; Beauty and the Beast at Ballet Nouveau Colorado. This past May, she received her MFA in Costume Design at Florida State University: Hamlet, HAIR, Darkness into Light Dance Concert, Othello Shakespeare Shortcut, and New Horizons: An Drochshaol.
ERIC C. DENTE (Sound Design) is a director, award winning playwright, sound designer and an actor. Credits: Langress and Munger, co-written with k.c. keene, currently under option for a commercial New York run. Twelve Nights premiered at The Theatre Arts Center in NY. Brother, Mine co-written with k.c. keene received a DDCC Award. Three Men in Search of a Pair of Shoes - DDCC nomination for best new play of the year. Mr. Dente is working toward the completion of his first novel, The Re-Animators "A Gothic Tale of Science and Fire," a contemporary imagining of the Frankenstein Myth.
HONEY GOODENOUGH (Puppet Design) is a puppeteer, clown, costume designer, arts educator and producer. She earned her Masters degree in Educational Theater from NYU, and her BA in Theater from UT. Her theatrical credits include Phantom Limb’s The Fortune Teller at HERE Theater, Puppetworks at Macy's, and The Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater. Video credits include puppetry for “Clap your Hands” by Sia, and puppet costume construction for “IRL FILES: Scare Tactics,” a web ad for Motorola. She also produces a puppetry showcase called “Puppet Pandemic,” a scholarship fundraiser for the National Puppetry Conference. You can also find her clowning around NYC Hospitals on behalf of the Starlight Children’s Foundation. She would like to give Ryan Dillon special thanks for assisting with this project. And yes, Honey Goodenough is her real name!
